That was once the rule for everyone, right? I mean, it didn't involve UVs, it was just a polite practice that our society agreed on, in addition to certain things being illegal.
They're not looking for an assassin. It's more about seeing to it that people are safe, collecting reports on any unusual happenings or new arrivals to the city, that sort of thing. But if you'd rather I'm sure they'd let you work at the pub, too. Pouring pints or sweeping up. Or there's always the potions workshop, too.
